Super September of fundraising
Here at 1ST CENTRAL we love a bit of fundraising, and as one of the largest employers in Haywards Heath, it’s important for us to play a positive role in the community through charitable giving and sponsorship.
And September was a particularly busy month for fundraising.
Haywards Heath railway celebrations
To celebrate 175 years since the railway came to Haywards Heath, the town hosted a special event and 1ST CENTRAL was delighted to support the historic celebrations.
Thousands of people headed to the station, the shopping centre and Victoria Park to take part in the fantastic community event.
We provided Lennie the Land Train, which proved to be the star attraction among the younger visitors and rides raised over £200 in donations for our charity of the year, St Peter & St James Hospice.
Tour De Sez
We supported our Chairman Ken Acott, along with Quality Assurance Analyst Chris Staples and Lead Developer Adrian Massey, as they joined a 60-strong team to complete the Tour De Sez, an epic 650-mile cycle journey from St Malo to Bilbao to raise money for the Sarah Groves Foundation.
To celebrate their efforts, we hosted our very own ‘Keep up with Ken’ competition. A static bike was set up at each of our office locations for employees to cycle along with the team. The combined efforts of all employees who took part totalled a whopping 1,537 miles. Team Guernsey came out on top, cycling an impressive 810 miles, while Guernsey employee Dan Edmunds was the individual winner, clocking up 189 miles.
Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ken Acott, said: “It was great to be part of something so challenging but also so rewarding as well as raising money for a very deserving charity. We have some incredible memories to take away from the experience and I’m so proud of all the riders who took part. I also couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone at home, the ‘Keep up with Ken’ challenge was a great way for employees to get involved with the tour - I’m impressed with how many miles they all cycled.”
Thanks to a great team effort, we raised over £300 for the Sarah Groves Foundation, and that’s without all the sponsorship achieved by all the Tour De Sez riders.
Charity car wash
Our Fun Central committee organised a charity car wash at our head office in Central House, and even roped in some volunteers in the shape of Sussex Cricket players! They all rolled up their sleeves to clean all the cars and raised a fantastic £231 for St Peter & St James Hospice.
White Collar Boxing
And 1ST CENTRAL was proud to sponsor three of our employees who took part in the Ultra White Collar Boxing event at The Grand Hotel in Brighton. The event was a massive success, raising more than £15,000 for Cancer Research UK between the 48 fighters who took part.
